38ハカイとソウゾウとカイワについて　「ドリーネでの声」　ある日秋吉台の山に上った時に窪んだドリーネの形を眺めながら「あの大きく口を開いたようなドリーネから声が聞こえてきたらどんな音がするのだろうか？」と想像してみました。その時、私の中に聞こえてきたのはその場所から聞こえもしない海の音だったのです。海の中で創られた石灰岩が雨に溶かされ、川となりまた海に戻って行く。それは、何億年前の海の記憶とこれから何億年後かに海に還るかもしれない未来とを繋ぐ音でした。私はこの土地に降る雨、鍾乳洞の水滴やその中を流れる川、ウバーレなど特異な地形に住む人、石灰岩で糧を得る人達、そして太古と未来を繋げる海などこの大地を形成する要素から音を集め、大きく開いたドリーネの口からそれらの音を声として発生させようと思ったのです。　「自然と人間の破壊と創造」　秋吉台での地形なリサーチと、地元の人達とのコミニケーションにより私に見えてきたものは、この土地が創造性溢れる土地だという事でした。海底の珊瑚によって形成された石灰岩は雨や水の浸食によりドリーネや鍾乳洞を形成し、その周りで生きる人達は石灰岩の山を切り崩し新たな資源を創り出す。私は、自然が途方もない時間を掛けて造り上げた地形と、人間が人為的に土地の資源から何かを創り出す中に「破壊」と「創造」という二つの言葉を見つけることが出来たのです。About Hakai to Souzou to Kaiwa"Voice at Doline"One day I climbed a mountain in Akiyoshidai, andlooking down the shape of a hollow Doline , I imaginedwhat kind of sound it would be if any voice came outof the Doline . What came to me then is the sound ofthe ocean, which is not supposed to be there. Thelimestone created under the sea is melted by rain,which then becomes a river and goes back to the sea.This sound is to connect recollections of the ocean ofmillions years ago with the future when it may return tothe ocean millions years later. Collecting the sound ofthe rain fell in this land, of water drops and streams inlimestone caves, of people who live in such a peculiarland as Uvala, of those who earn their daily bread bylimestone, and of the elements that form this land suchas the ocean to link ancient times with the present andfuture, I thought that I would generate the sound asvoice from the widely opened Doline's 'mouth'."Destruction and Creation by the Nature and Mankind"Through my research into the topography of Akiyoshidaiand my communication with the local people,I found this land full of creativity. Coral on the oceanbed formed limestone, which then created Doline andlimestone caves through rain erosion. People wholive around cut through a mountain of limestone andproduce new natural resources. I managed to find twoterms, “destruction” and “creation” in the geographicalfeatures that the nature has made up over an extraordinarilylong time, and in the fact that people artificiallycreate something with the natural resources of thisland.
