Akiyoshidai International Art Village(AIAV) receivedapplications from all over the world for its Artist inResidence program under the same theme aslast year and hosted six groups from six countriesin total this year. Three groups of artists wereselected through open call: Mica Cabildo(Republicof the Philippines), Paul Hommage&YumiTakeuchi(France & Japan), and Junya Kataoka+RieIwatake(Japan). AIAV also hosted three artiststhrough recommendations by overseas partnershiporganizations: Jiyen Lee from Gyeonggi CreationCenter(Korea), Liang-Hsuan Chen from TaipeiArtist Village(Taiwan), and Joel Chin from GreyProjects(Singapore). Here, I write about the finalexhibition presented by each artist/group.While researching on the geological features ofthe Karst plateau in this region, Mica Cabildo fromRepublic of the Philippines found the concept of“deep time” intriguing and visited various localexperts such as a professor from the researchinstitute for the time studies and a scientiststudying bats. Connecting Akiyoshidai severalhundred millions years ago and archipelagos in thePhilippines at present, Cabildo installed bamboorafts in the middle of mountains in Mine city. Thisinstallation reminds us of the sea in the Philippinesand a cross point between the sea and the mountainwhich transcends time and space. Furthermore, withthe interest in bats which live in several hundredsof caves under the Karst plateau, she created andexhibited a variety of installation works related todreams of bats along with some poetic elementssuch as “a bat dreams of falling”, letting us thinkabout the unique sensory abilities bats possess.Through research in the residency, Paul Hommageand Yumi Takeuchi focused on locally producedmarbles and used it as projection screen by gratingthe marble to its limit with an electric sander. The Future of This Land」について中野 良寿trans_2018-2019 The Future of This LandYoshihisa NakanoA contributing text by Yoshihisa Nakano 010
