88　trans とは、越える、横切る、通過する、交差/ 交換する、変換/ 転換するなどの意味を持つ接頭語です。レジデンス・サポート・プログラムは、アーティストたちにとってその後の活動のための実験の場であり、新しい体験の場となります。作家たちは滞在する場所の文化、環境、そしてそこに生活する人々からアイデアを受け取り、創作活動を通じて新しい発想や視点を地域にもたらします。私たちは、秋吉台国際芸術村レジデンス事業が、様々な思想や文化の枠を越え、人々が行き交い、ふれ合う場となることを期待します。また、アーティストには意欲的に様々なプロジェクトに取り組むことが望まれ、創作活動とともに、その成果発表やアウトリーチなど地域交流プログラムを積極的に行っていただきます。　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　The prefix ‘trans’ means to go beyond, get across,cross, exchange, change and convert.The Residence Support Program provides a time andplace for artists to experience new encounters andcarry out experiments to guide their future projects.Participating artists are expected to bring new ideasto the local culture and people while they, in turn,will hopefully acquire new perspectives throughthese fresh encounters. As a result of the residenceprogram, the artists will convey their new experiences,gathered from the local lifestyle and our particulargeographic situation, to their next destination. Wehope that the residence program at AkiyoshidaiInternational Art Village becomes a space for artists togo beyond cultural borders and expand their outlooks,exchange their unique understandings and establishrelationships with fellow artists.　trans_2016-2017の公募には、57の国・地域から216件の応募があり、山口大学教育学部教授の中野良寿氏、独立行政法人国際交流基金コミュニケーションセンター、プログラム・コーディネーターの菅野幸子氏、美祢市立嘉万小学校校長の久保田尚氏、秋芳国際交流協会事務局長の山中佳子氏、以上4名の選考委員により「芸術性」「将来性」「地域親和性」「テーマとの整合性」の4つの観点から審査が行われ、韓国、オランダ、日本の3ヵ国から3名のアーティストが選出されました。海外協定機関からの推薦枠では、キョンギ・クリエーション・センター（韓国）、台北國際藝術村（台湾）、フィンランドセンター（フィンランド）のディレクターやキュレーターより推薦を受けた3名のアーティストが選出されました。We received 216 entries from 57 countries and regionsthrough the open call for trans_2016-2017. The 3 finalistsfrom South Korea, The Netherlands and Japanwere chosen by a selection committee comprised ofYoshihisa Nakano (Professor, Department of Educationat Yamaguchi University), Sachiko Kanno (ProgramCoordinator, The Japan Foundation), TakashiKubota (Schoolmaster, Kama Elementary School), andYoshiko Yamanaka (Shuho International ExchangeAssociation) based on the criteria of “artistic quality”,“potentiality”, “affinity with the local community” and“integrity with the theme”. The other 3 artists wereselected and nominated by our overseas partnershiporganizations, i.e., Gyeonggi Creation Center in SouthKorea, Taipei Artist Village in Taiwan, and the FinnishInstitute in Japan.
