AIAV trans_2018-2019秋吉台国際芸術村アーティスト・イン・レジデンスtrans_2018-2019The prefix ‘trans’ means to go beyond, get across,cross, exchange, change and convert.The Residence Support Program provides a timeand place for artists to experience new encountersand carry out experiments to guide their futureprojects. Participating artists are expected tobring new ideas to the local culture and peoplewhile they, in turn, will hopefully acquire newperspectives through these fresh encounters.As a result of the residence program, the artistswill convey their new experiences, gathered fromthe local lifestyle and our particular geographicsituation, to their next destination. We hope thatthe residence program at Akiyoshidai InternationalArt Village becomes a space for artists to gobeyond cultural borders and expand theiroutlooks, exchange their unique understandingsand establish relationships with fellow artists.We received 258 entries from 64 countries and regionsthrough the open call for trans_2018-2019.The 3 finalists (Including 2 groups) from Republicof the Philippines, France and Japan were chosenby a selection committee comprised of YoshihisaNakano (Professor, Department of Education atYamaguchi University), Sachiko Kanno (Art Planner/Art Researcher), Junji Nii, Deputy Headteacher/ Art Teacher, Shuho Junior High School) andYoshiko Yamanaka (Shuho International ExchangeAssociation) based on the criteria of “artistic quality”,“potentiality”, “affinity with the local community”and “integrity with the theme”. The other 3 artistswere selected and nominated by our overseaspartnership organizations, i.e., Gyeonggi CreationCenter in South Korea, Taipei Artist Village in Taiwan,and Grey Projects in Singapore.Akiyoshidai International Art VillageArtist in Residencetrans_2018-2019trans とは、越える、横切る、通過する、交差/交換する、変換/ 転換するなどの意味を持つ接頭語です。レジデンス・サポート・プログラムは、アーティストたちにとってその後の活動のための実験の場であり、新しい体験の場となります。作家たちは滞在する場所の文化、環境、そしてそこに生活する人々からアイデアを受け取り、創作活動を通じて新しい発想や視点を地域にもたらします。私たちは、秋吉台国際芸術村レジデンス事業が、様々な思想や文化の枠を越え、人々が行き交い、ふれ合う場となることを期待します。また、アーティストには意欲的に様々なプロジェクトに取り組むことが望まれ、創作活動とともに、その成果発表やアウトリーチなど地域交流プログラムを積極的に行っていただきます。trans_2018-2019の公募には、64の国・地域から258組の応募があり、山口大学教育学部教授の中野良寿氏、アートプランナー・アートリサーチャーの菅野幸子氏、美祢市立秋芳中学校教頭の新居淳治氏、秋芳国際交流協会事務局長の山中佳子氏、以上4名の選考委員により「芸術性」「将来性」「地域親和性」「テーマとの整合性」の4つの観点から審査が行われ、フィリピン、フランス、日本の３ヵ国から３組５名のアーティストが選出されました。また、海外協定機関からの推薦枠では、キョンギ・クリエーション・センター（韓国）、台北國際藝術村（台湾）、グレイ・プロジェクツ（シンガポール）のディレクターやキュレーターより推薦を受けた3名のアーティストが招聘されました。008
