Q2 現在のあなたのプロジェクトについて教えてください。トルコのイスタンブールにあるDEPO Art Space での個展のために集中して作業を行う時間や環境として、2017 年にAIAV を訪問しました。《トルコについての私が知っている2 ?3 の事柄》というプロジェクトは96 歳のトルコ人近代作曲家であるイルハン・ウスマンバスやイスタンブールの郊外にあるトゥズラにあった元F1 のレース場から展開したものです。この大変異なる二つの主題を組み合わせ、架空の第三の場所を生み出した展覧会で、換喩的なレベルで今日のトルコやその成否、また文化的かつ政治的な不穏について深く理解するための試みでした。AIAVでのリサーチや編集の時間がなければ、このプロジェクトは発展させられなかったので、大変感謝しています。また、オープン・スタジオやスタジオ訪問などで地域のアーティストや観衆との対話を持つ機会が何度かあったことを素晴らしく思います。Q3 AIAV の将来に向けての個人的な期待や希望は？上述したように伝統的な都市部のアート・センターから離れた場所で現代美術を行うことには、今日的に本当に潜在的な可能性があると思います。この瞬間に、規模や資金調達構造に関係なく、文化的な生態系の一部として、山口県内のアート・シーンに関わるアート・スペース、大学プログラム、ギャラリー、美術館、アーティストや俳優などを想像した時に、地域のアート・シーンの発展にとても重要な役割を果たすのはAIAV だと思います。滞在制作プログラムは大変強力なツールだと思いますし、教育的な施設、ギャラリー、芸術的な実験の舞台のような、芸術学校や有名な芸術施設のない地域にとってもとても価値の高く重要なハイブリッドな施設だと思います。しかしながら、成功する秘訣はAIAV の意欲、視線、地域を繋ぎ共同する能力の度合いにかかっています。次の10 年AIAV がどこへ向かうのかを大変楽しみにしています。マイク・ボードフェローシップ2009 & 2018Q2 Please tell us about your current projects!I visited AIAV in 2017 in order to give me the time andspace to concentrate and work on a solo exhibitionproject I was making for the DEPO Art Space inIstanbul Turkey. The project called ”2 or 3 things Iknow about Turkey”, revolves around the 96 yearold Turkish modernist composer ?lhan Usmanba?and the former Formula 1 race track in Tuzla onthe outskirts of Istanbul. In the exhibition thesetwo very different subject matters where broughttogether creating an imaginary third space, whichon a metonymic level attempted to access a deeperunderstanding of Turkey today, of its successes andfailures and of its cultural and political restlessness.The development of the project would not have beenpossible without the time I spent at AIAV for researchand editing, and for which I am very grateful. It wasalso great to engage in dialogue with local artists andaudiences through the open studios and studio visitsprograms at AIAV.Q3 A personal expectation and hope for AIAV'sfuture?As I mentioned earlier, I think there is some realpotential today for Contemporary Art in placesoutside of the traditional urban Art Centers. If one, fora moment, imagines all of the Art spaces, universitycourses, galleries, museums, artists and other actorsinvolved in the Art scene in Yamaguchi prefectureas being part of the same cultural ecosystem,irrelevant of their size, scale or funding structures,then I think AIAV can play a very important part in thedevelopment of the regional Art scene. A residencyprogram can be seen as a very powerful tool, itis something which lies between an educationalestablishment, a gallery and a platform for artisticexperimentation, it is a hybrid space, somethingwhich is very valuable and important in a regionwithout an Art Academy or strong Art institutions.However, I think the secret to be successful dependson AIAV´s level of ambition, its view of itself and itsability to interconnect and collaborate with the otheractors in the region.
