Forewordご挨拶秋吉台国際芸術村　村長 八木 資義秋吉台国際芸術村は1998年に音楽、美術、ダンス、映像など幅広い芸術分野の創造活動の場として国定公園秋吉台の麓に創設され、今年度20周年を迎えました。この間の多くの皆さまの温かいご支援にまずもって感謝を申し上げますとともに、これからも芸術村のさまざまな事業へのご理解とさらなるご支援をお願いいたします。さて、芸術村の最も主要な事業の一つである「アーティスト・イン・レジデンス」は、創設当初から国内外の多くのアートを志す若者たちを支援するとともに、彼らによって生み出された作品を世界に向けて積極的に発信してきました。これまで190組を超すアーティストたちが芸術村に滞在して創作活動に取り組み、それらの成果を広く発表しています。今年度2018年度は、世界中の6カ所の国と地域（日本、韓国、フィリピン、シンガポール、フランス、台湾）から、6組8人のアーティストが公募や提携する海外関係機関の推薦によって来村しました。公募にあたっては、地元「秋吉台」「美祢市」を世界に向けて発信してほしいということから、昨年に引き続いて「この土地の未来」(TheFuture of This Land)というテーマを設定し、64ヵ国258組の応募がありました。今回、来村したアーティストたちは芸術村に65日間滞在し、地域のリサーチや地元の方々と交流を図るなどして、その結果、独自のアイデアが生かされた見応えのある作品が生み出されました。是非この報告書を御高覧のうえ、皆様方の忌憚のないご感想、ご意見をいただければ幸いでございます。最後になりましたが、アーティストの作品制作やワークショップ、展示やアーティスト・トークの開催等、多くのご支援・ご協力をいただきました関係の皆様に厚くお礼申し上げます。Akiyoshidai International Art Village was foundedin 1998 at the foot of the quasi-national park Akiyoshidaias a creative space for a wide range of artisticactivities, including music, visual arts, dance,and films and this year marks the 20th anniversary.First of all, we would like to express our gratitudeto those who gave us generous support duringthese 20 years and at the same time, we would liketo ask your further support and understanding ofAIAV’s various programs from now on.Through “Artist in Residence” program which isone of the most important programs at AIAV, wehave supported emerging artists from all over theworld from the foundation of AIAV and the workscreated by the participating artists have been activelypresented to the world. Until now, more than190 artists and artist groups stayed at AIAV to workon their projects and presented their outcomes tothe public.In the fiscal year 2018, six groups(eight artists)from six countries(Japan, Korea, Republic of thePhilippines, Singapore, France, and Taiwan), visitedAIAV through open call and recommendationsby overseas partnership organizations. For theopen call, out of our hope to promote “Akiyoshidai”and “Mine city” to the world, we set a theme of “TheFuture of This Land” just as the year before andreceived 258 applications from 64 countries.The participating artists of this year stayed at AIAVfor 65 days to research on the area and to interactwith local residents and as a result, their uniqueideas formed into impressive artworks.
