Performer Profile

The group to experiment the music made up of a thereminist TORINE, an Ondes Martenot player Tomomi KUBO, and a composer Junichi MATSUMOTO.

Piano | Junichi MATSUMOTO

Junichi MATSUMOTO started to work as a musician/composer in 1994. After his Masters in Composition at the Iceland Academy of Arts in 2009, he received the 2011 Queen Elizabeth International Music Composition finalist award. He won the 37th JAPAN Academy Award of Excellence in 2014 when he composed for the movie “Like Father, Like Son” (directed by Hirokazu KOREEDA). He handled the music section of movie “The Nutcracker” (directed by Sebastian MASUDA), movie “The Chasuke’s Journey” (directed by SABU), TV drama “the Ruins Holiday” (TV Tokyo) etc., He also handled both musics of the a big hit anime “The Ancient Magus’ Bride” (total sales had already exceeded 3 millions) in 2016, and movie “Mr.Long” (directed by SABU) that is internationally co-produced drama film in 2017. “Mr.Long” was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section of the 67th Berlin International Film Festival.

Theremin | TORINE

Theremin player. She graduated from Composition course of Musashino Academia Musicae Graduate Course. She was attracted the magical interface that playing without touching the instrument and incomparable sound, she started her music activities as a Theremin player in 2002. Emphasizing the accuracy of pitch and rhythm, not to mention humane articulation, she is working on her activity to tell people that the Theremin is not just only very rare instrument, but also has various expressions as the music instrument. She played the sound track of a movie “The Nutcracker”(music by Junichi Matsumoto, 2014).

Ondes Martenot | Tomomi KUBO

Tomomi KUBO went to France after graduating from Kunitachi College of Music. She won the 1st prize at the course of Ondes Martenot at Conservatoire France National Boulogne-Billancourt and graduated from the school. She started performance activities when she was studing. After she came back to Japan, she performed at Karuizawa International Music Festival, Tokyo Experimental Festival vol.9, movie “Juon”, TV drama “Platonic” (music by Koji UENO), CM (JT) and more. Now she has been involved in various activities such as collaboration performance with contemporary dance, lecture concert and performance of new pieces. She studied Ondes Martenot under Takashi HARADA and Pascale Rousse-Lacordaire.
